A detailed guide on how to care for your Candalin candles.
First burn sets the stage for how long the candle will burn throughout its life. Top tips!
- Burn the candle for 3 to 4 hours letting the wax pool reach the edges of the jar to avoid "tunnelling".
- Trim the wick to 5mm before lighting.
- Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours.
What is tunnelling? And how to fix it!
Tunnelling happens when a candle burns down the centre creating hard wax around the side, meaning you won't be able to make maximum use of your candle. Unfortunately, this will eventually drown your wick in melting wax.
To fix your candle tunnelling try the following methods:
Use a tea light oil burner
- First remove the wax from your unusable candle (see below)
- Place the wax on top of the burner
- Light a tea light into the burners base
Use Aluminum foil method
- Cut a generous piece of foil
- Cover the rim of the canlde
- Leave enough space for the wick to burn safely
- Allow the candle to burn until the wax reaches the edges of the jar
How to remove wax from your jar and reuse.
Double boiler method
- Fill a bowl with boiling water
- Gently sit the candle jar in the centre and wait for a few minutes
- Check to see the wax has soften (if not wait couple more minutes)
- Remove the melted wax from the jar
- Wash the jar with warm water and use.
Wash and go method - Perfect for natural wax candles
- Remove the wax with a sharp knife
- Fill the container with soap and hot water from your tap, let it sit for 2/3 minutes
- Wipe the jar clean and use.
How to keep your candle jar from turning black?
- Trim wick before every use
- Keep candle away from drafts
- Extinguish candle properly
- When not in use, place a lid over the candle to prevent debris
